2024 Ford Ranger
Rebuilt for the new generation, the 2024 Ford Ranger is the latest midsize pickup from Ford to challenge the segment, push the boundaries, and continue Ford's dominance over the global trucking market. With the best-selling F-150 dominating the full-size segment, Ford is looking to expand on its legacy of building great trucks by making the Ford Ranger an even more affordable, efficient, and utilitarian pickup that appeals to all different kinds of truck shoppers within the midsize segment.
Performance
More Engine Options
The redesigned 2024 Ford Ranger includes a whole new approach to the midsize truck's performance. It's no longer powered solely by the turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, which produces 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. That was the only option shoppers had for the midsize Ranger in the outgoing generation. For the new model year, however, you now have both the 2.3-liter EcoBoost and a finely-tuned 2.7-liter EcoBoost turbocharged V6 to choose from.
The turbocharged V6 produces 315 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque and is married to a 10-speed automatic SelectShift transmission with available paddle shifters. This works in conjunction with the rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive system, the latter of which is paired with a two-speed transfer case that offers multiple drive modes for trailering and off-road traversal. The different drive modes provide a variety of profiles designed to get the most out of the truck's capabilities, so you can conquer slippery or wet roads, just as well as off-road trails.
Chassis Upgrades
The Ranger's performance has been optimized around a singular configuration consisting of a crew cab with a short bed. This means that Ford's engineers were able to maximize the powertrain for the relatively lightweight Ranger to get the most out of the truck's performance capabilities. You can take advantage of the exceptional ground clearance for both daily driving and off-road traversal. With the rear-wheel drive Ranger, you have up to 8.8 inches of ground clearance, and with the four-wheel drive configuration, you can access up to 9.3 inches of ground clearance. The overhaul of the suspension saw the shock mounts moved outboard of the frame rails, which means that when you traverse rocky or bumpy terrain, you can still maintain control of the vehicle without it feeling like you're losing grip during bumps and jounces.
Capabilities
Competitive Towing And Payload
The revamped and rebuilt 2024 Ford Ranger offers competitive capabilities when it comes to trailering. If you need a midsize pickup for towing around goods, the Ranger does the job well, with a max towing capacity of 7,500 lbs. This is made possible thanks to the high-strength steel frame and wider track, so you get more stability when trailering and a more responsive and smoother ride from the Ranger, even while you have cargo hitched to the back. With the integrated trailer brake controller, you can keep full control of the trailer and your cargo without worrying about trailer sway or the trailer becoming unmanageable on the road.
This also ties into the Ranger's payload capabilities. Even with a short bed, you can still get a lot of mileage out of your payload capacity, with the Ranger capable of hauling an impressive 1,805 lbs worth of cargo in the rear. Those are big numbers for a midsize pickup and give you a lot of leeway in how you use the Ranger. Whether it's for hauling around lawn care equipment, heavy tools, or construction gear, you can get plenty of uses out of the Ranger from a utilitarian perspective.
Multi-function Versatility
The available 400-watt power inverter also makes the Ranger a great mobile generator, whether for work or for play. Keep your goods fresh and cold with a portable fridge, or keep your tools powered and ready at a work site using the bed outlet. You also have a side-step behind the rear wheels to easily access and get inside the bed. There's also easy accessibility to the tailgate, which you can use as a workbench thanks to the integrated ruler and built-in clamp pockets.
Integrated tow hooks make the 2024 Ranger a great truck for use for both work and off-road-related recreation. The utilitarian aspects also extend to the interior, where you can seat up to five people across two rows or make use of the second row as an extra cargo storage area thanks to the fold-flat rear seatbacks. Once again, the modularity of the Ranger's design manages to stand out among its competitors thanks to its multi-versatile functionality.
Technology
Modern Features For A Modern Truck
Ford has managed to corner a sizable portion of the truck market thanks to the intuitive tech in its trucks. The combination of great standard driver-assist features made available through the Ford Co-Pilot360 suite and a lot of trailering and towing features has made the Ford tech features some of the most revered in the industry. They are modern, comprehensive, and user-friendly, and that same ethos applies to the new 2024 Ford Ranger, which utilizes the SYNC 4A infotainment suite.
With the SYNC 4A technology, you have all of the integrated multimedia and infotainment support you could want out of a modern midsize pickup. This includes Bluetooth wireless support and pass-through voice commands, so you can make hands-free calls and texts or access system functions such as navigation and directions while only using your voice. This gives you a lot more control over what you access and how, enabling you to stay focused on the road and the journey ahead instead of fumbling around with knobs and dials.
Infotainment And Driver-assist Technology
The 2024 Ranger features wireless smart device integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with the availability of wireless charging, so you can keep your smart devices charged without worrying about having the right cords on hand. Support for over-the-air updates made available through Ford Power-Up Software Updates also means your Ranger will always be equipped with the latest software and performance features, whether that is remote access or power management via your smart device. The connectivity functionality of the Ranger is expansive and intuitive for today's modern truck drivers.
Safety is also a significant selling point of the 2024 Ranger, and the new truck includes 31 standard and available active driver-assist features. Some of the standard features are part of the Ford Co-Pilot360 suite, such as the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Cross Traffic Alert. For the 2024 Ranger, BLIS comes with Trailer Coverage. You will also find Pro Trailer Backup Assist and Trailer Reverse Guidance, so you will have not only active monitoring of the Ranger and its cargo but also assistance maneuvering your trailer without any problems. Additionally, there is Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, a short-throw E-shifter, Active Park Assist 2.0, and multiple camera support for parking, maneuvering with a trailer, and getting in and out of tight spots.
